Hola! We made it to the hotel in Leon by 4pm. Thanks to Paul for the hotel suggestion- it's perfect and we are all settled in! The road to the Guadalajara turnoff was surprisingly NOT BUSY! Yeah! It meant we got off that horrible road in about 70 minutes, then it was just a great drive. We got a tiny bit lost off the main freeway in Guad but we were turned around and back on track in no time. Gail was so happy to relinquish navigator status to Maureen! I was happy to have a navigator who can read a map! I still missed my GPS though.
For the most part it was just a long drive. We waved hello/goodbye to Tequila along the route. Then we stopped at one of the toll booths and ate our tuna sandwiches and Maureen bought a big plastic bottle of tequila OLE!
Just at the last tollbooth as we entered Leon there were the prettiest topiary animals carved along the side of the road. Bored toll people Maureen thinks-but we appreciated seeing them.
Our only disappointment is that the leather market (just a short walk from here) is not open on Monday. We hoped to do a quick tour around tonight before dinner. Now we will have to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before the market opens at ten tomorrow morning.
As soon as we spend lots of pesos (and I saw some samples of the wares in the hotel lobby-just beautiful!) we will be on our way to Guanajuato. Hopefully I can post again tomorrow and have some nice photos to show.
Hasta Luego!
